Emergency Kits
Emergency or not, water and food are crucial to survival. During a disaster, however, water and power may both be cut off, and you are left to your own devices. Water, in particular, is essential, as it is needed for cooking, hydration, and hygiene. In preparing for a disaster, plan for at least one source of backup or emergency water. To aid your preparation, Survival Supply offers multiple options for at-home and portable emergency water supplies.
Pouches and cans of water are the quickest and easiest approach to building an emergency supply, and we offer both in large quantities. Ideal for your food storage, pouches or cans of water have a long shelf life: from five to more than 30 years. Rather than going through filtration and purification, you can simply open a can or pouch to get the water needed for preparing food, drinking, and bathing.
A single source of water is not reliable, and during an emergency, a backup supply is needed. One option is gradually building up your own water storage with a rain barrel or storage tank. Rain water can be kept inside, and the blue color prevents algae from building up inside the tank. While water kept in a barrel is reliable and a helpful backup, it is still in a raw - or undrinkable - state. If you plan to take this approach for an emergency water supply, make sure to have filtration or purification devices, preferably portable, available.
What happens if an area needs to be evacuated? Be prepared with a portable water storage container. For hydration to last the next few days, a portable water storage container holds five gallons and can be grabbed before you leave.
In preparation for any disaster, plan for multiple sources of emergency food and water that will last you at least three days away from the grid. |
